MLK Day in Pictures: Dunbar HS/CAPCS

by Matt Repka, corps member on the Serve DC Team serving at Johnson Middle School.

Over 900 volunteers came out to Dunbar Senior High School on January 16th to perform community service alongside City Year corps members in honor of Martin Luther King Day. Honoring Dr. King’s legacy with a commitment to serving others, volunteers took on projects at Dunbar, Community Academy Public Charter School (CAPCS), So Others Might Eat (SOME) and the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington.

Here are more photos of volunteers and corps members taking on a wide variety of painting projects at both Dunbar and CAPCS.

  2. At the end of service, Leonard Upson, the principal at CAPCS was overjoyed. 6 weeks prior to the day he told us, “I wish MLK was tomorrow so we could have all this now!”

    It truly was transformative.

Any thoughts?
