On Friday, May 18 City Year will hold a service day with one of our favorite corporate partners: Corporate Executive Board (CEB). CEB provides consulting services to many top executive leaders around the world. But while driving the development of business, CEB also makes it a priority to give back to the community. All CEB employees have the opportunity to earn extra time off by participating in outside volunteer work, and every year CEB holds a Global Service Day where all employees come together to transform a community. This year, City Year is proud to host a CEB Global Service Day project at the Walker Jones Education Campus in Northwest Washington, DC. Walker Jones is a unique DC Public School that is in the midst of an inspiring turnaround. The k-8 education campus includes a working farm that is incorporated into the school’s science curriculum.
City Year Washington, DC and CEB will combine tomorrow to transform this school and the surrounding community. 160 corps members and close to 900 volunteers will paint murals on the walls of the school, both inside and out; clean up the outside grounds; build benches and plant flowers on the grounds; and even attempt to build a greenhouse out of recycled plastic bottles!
Check back here next week to see the impact of this exciting day!
